Before proceeding any further let’s first understand what PPC campaign is all about. In a PPC or pay per click as it is known as, you have to pay for the ranking of your website on the PPC search engine. This method is quite unlike the natural search engine optimization method and is a highly evolved way of doing internet marketing. One major advantage of this method is that you pay only for the number of clicks on your website and not at all for its listing on the search engine or for the impression of the ad. Only once a potential visitor or a searcher visits the listing that you are required to pay.

The listing of the website is done on the basis of the selection of the Keywords. This selection is based on the bidding system and the higher you bid, higher you would appear on the listing.

All said and done, it is always advisable to have a solid PPC campaign plan ready to ensure commercial success. You must be very clear with your business objectives and what is your definition of achieving success. Proper keyword selection and preparation of a result oriented ad copy then completes the rudimentary formulation of your campaign. The keywords selected should be such that they are able to address the desired audience and generate positive and beneficial responses. Care must be taken that the keywords selected are neither too cumbersome nor too petite and thus are not able to meet the desired objectives. Once a PPC campaign is off the ground then comes the most crucial aspect, which is watching over the entire campaign.

You just cannot afford to play the wait and watch game with PPC. The bidding process makes it so very much competitive that every minute, hour, and months of your campaign could be challenged. You have to make sure that the entire campaign is carried out within the designated budget. The bidding should not make you loose your common sense. If the lower bid is able to generate the desired amount of traffic towards your site then you better stick to it.  At the same time you should not bid so low that the visibility of your site is next to none.

Another common mistake to avoid is the incorrect designing of the home page. The home page is not where the whole gamut of information is to be displayed. Whatever the products or services you are advertising should be linked. The home page should attract the visitor and the related links should engage him.

The last but not the least is that the scheduling of the campaign should be done wisely. You can either advertise when the competitors are also present or you can advertise when they are not there.
