From replaying your viral clips from a game to catching fan reactions to those moments, the app is a haven for die-hard sports fans.

Business Needs
The client wanted to build an app that could be fans of different games, such as baseball, basketball and soccer. The client also planned to cash in on user-generated content besides offering the latest game-related updates to fans. Here are some of the concrete business needs that the client had in mind before the app went into production.

  • Building an easy-to-use, fun app for different sports fans
  • Unlocking the power of user-generated content
  • Delivering curated and customized UX to sports fans
  • Ensuring faster app deployments with improved flexibility
  • Enabling sports fans to connect, share and relive old moments

Strategy & Solution
The client's search for a trusted app development partner led it to us. Having deep expertise in native and hybrid app development, we were in a strong position to understand the client's business requirements. After analyzing the requirements for the new-age sports app, we suggested the client to have dedicated apps for iOS and Android. Besides, we also brainstormed with the client's business team over the app's features. Since the client had aggressive timelines to publish the app on the market, we suggested it to use serverless architecture. That is how we planned on helping the client bypass the need to invest the time and resources required to deal with a conventional technology infrastructure.

Front-end

The front-end of the sports app was supposed to play an integral role in hooking the audiences from the first swipe. To build an immersive front-end interface, we used different pieces of technology, including iOS Native, Android Native and different video-streaming capabilities. Here are some highlights of the app's front-end that we focused on.

  • Building a clutter-free discovery feed for curated and viral sport stories
  • Integrating a time graph to list all posts and content chronologically
  • Empowering users to publish their stories from sporting events
  • Helping users create a collection of stories, chat with peers, and more

Backend

As the client expected an accelerated project delivery, we proposed it to go with a serverless architecture. Taking the backend support to the cloud enabled us to put the project deployment and deliveries on the fast track to completion. We designed, built and deployed a serverless architecture for the client from scratch. We even used Node JS to ensure that the app was swift to load on the server without facing crashes or slowdowns.

  • Embracing a robust cloud-based architecture
  • Building a next-gen scalable, lightweight backend solution
  • Ensuring non-blocking I/O operations
  • Speeding up data sharing between client servers and web servers

Development Process

As the project was based on a serverless architecture, we made sure to use cloud-based resources instead of the more traditional server-backed resource pool. Following a serverless architecture, our project ensured that all the project's milestones were met on time. Besides, we made sure our development approach helped in maximizing the use of resources. Last but not least, we made sure the process helped minimize operational costs for the client as well.

  • Delivering world-class agility to innovate while in the production phase
  • Creating serverless computing as the framework for app development
  • Maximizing the use of resources optimally and at an incredible speed
  • Improving the backend system's fault-tolerance capabilities

Business Outcomes
When the production phase got over, we were able to launch a fully functional and highly intuitive sports app for the client. The app was even successfully published on two of the leading app marketplaces: Apple's App Store and Android's Google Play. Once launched, the app was runaway success among sports lovers. Since its launch, the app has given the sports fans a strong community to connect, collaborate and co-create with other like-minded individuals. Here are some of the key highlights that the client could reap from the engagement.

  • Being a one-stop destination for sports lovers to engage with one another
  • Becoming a 5-star rated app on App Store
  • Helping the client receive many users within the first few weeks of the launch
  • Delivering the convenience to know about the latest sporting events with a swipe
  • Giving fanbases the flexibility to chat, engage and strengthen the community
