The metaverses conceptualized by Roblox, Decentraland, and other gaming platforms are there for everyone to dive into, but how exactly does it pan out is yet to be fully established!

It all started with Fortnite, Clash of Clans, Minecraft, Animal Crossing, and even the cinematic jewel (Ready Player One) furnishing a sneak peek into the immersive experience that the metaverse offers. Right then, the entire idea took a hit as coming of age, flip-flop-wearing weirdos took control over the narrative – and branded AR, VR, IoT, crypto, blockchain, and every other innovation as some of the ways for the giants to make money!

There is no denying the truth that the metaverses are ushering a divide among the new & the old age and helping the rich get richer, but again who can stop the evolution from happening?

If a person likes to live in a metaverse, kill his enemy, buy a coke, burn a pool-full of money and return to the 9-5 job with a better sense of belonging, then I don’t see any harm. (At least, it is not pretentious like the world peace – but we all know what is happening in the Westworld)

Do human beings deserve metaverses – maybe interoperable ones? Free guy, anyone? No.

We don’t deserve the Earth either (Maybe Mars also), but what’s the other option?

So, we got to purchase those Beeple NFTs, be the owner of something that will never exist in the real-life, brag about it in the Decentraland art gallery, talk about changing the world for a few moments, check the bank balance, throw Axies in the battleground, build multiple games for children to witness human greed and lust, read a poem about why we are doomed, watch a sitcom, and log off for the day!

And imagine doing all that in the real world – it’s ghastly to be a venting mechanism but to see the light of the day, that’s fairly too much.

Human life, as we know it, is such that we tend to increasingly move towards misery from happiness (birth -> death), and there’s never the reverse – hence our actions loosely translate to what we intend to escape!

Isn’t it extraordinary to notice that we are escaping the escape mechanism by running directly into it? But then again, life itself is complex enough to worry about those small things!

So, we gotta suck onto innovation; let FOMO kick in and enjoy these overhyped metaverses for a few decades – wait for the frenzy to wear off, and dream for a simple life again. In the meantime -

Watch a promising idea like DLT getting crumbled under the revolutions becoming majoritarian regimes with the garb of Decentralized Autonomous Organizations (DAO); Let liberalism fight hard with conservative values and outdo each other; Let people trade precious free-world-currency Bitcoin for as stupid an idea of having a plot near a big movie star in Decentraland (Naysayers about digital currency, please shut up, your bank balance is also just a number if paper printing machine gets shut down)

Meta

However, not all is all-is-not-well with the metaverse; everything about AR, VR, Defi, NFTs, gaming, etc., can be put to good use if the perception changes from buying experiences to becoming enlightened and ending world hunger.

Otherwise, the metaverse will become exactly like the real world that we are running from, TBH it offers us an opportunity to correct the historical wrongs, but it would still be a bigger deal even if things do not go that route.

Acting responsibly and excruciatingly simple-minded is necessary because the vision for a better world need not cater to an overall outlook – and how the rich sell the idea of a better lifestyle.
