Project Overview

Migrating SharePoint 2013 to SharePoint 2013 is becoming increasingly popular among businesses both large and small. Upgrading from SharePoint 2010 to SharePoint 2013 comes with lots of benefits, but there are definitely some challenges, too.

Having said that, live migration means that you can upgrade your SharePoint instance from one server to another without any downtime, but during the process anything that happens between like adding new items on the list or deleting a wiki page will not be captured after the copy database has been performed.

Project Challenge

Major challenge of the migration process of SharePoint 2010 to SharePoint 2013 is to migrate, secure, audit, maintain and recover efficiently without using native tools. Our solutions help secure your data during the move, and ensure your resources are used effectively.

First we ensure that our migration should be fast, reliable, secure and low-cost migration of List Library, workflow and custom web part to on-premises. Important in migration process is whole system migrate without installing or maintaining additional software. Migrate multiple users with active directory and simultaneously to increase performance and save time. Filter un-used site/sub site and clean up unwanted data.

SharePoint 2013 workflows are now performed “off box,” reflecting the general direction Microsoft is taking, teasing apart features into services that can be upgraded at their own pace. But you are not required to upgrade workflows. SharePoint 2013 includes the SharePoint 2010 workflow engine, on-box, so workflows should continue to function as before. While there’s no technical reason to upgrade workflows, there’s no business reason to do so, immediately. If the workflows are meeting your objectives, all is good.

The Endeavor

Prior to startup the actual migration, you will want to have clear idea of all farm solutions installed on your SharePoint 2010 servers. That was my initial approach, I came up with a list of steps and requirements that I’d need to perform in order to fully migrate from SharePoint 2010. We have perform following step to complete migration process.

Now the party really starts. In a perfect world, this is how it works for OOTB installations with no customizations – to upgrade, you just follow these simple steps:

  • Backup your SharePoint 2010 database
  • Restore the database in a new SharePoint 2013 farm
  • Create a SharePoint 2013 Web application and create a temporary site collection – make sure it works
  • Detach and delete associated web application database(s)
  • Attached new database
