12th February the various Search Engines finally came to a common stand, about How to list the pages on there Search Engine Result Pages that are dynamic in nature or the pages that are using a Tracking code.
For example a page that has a url like this
‘http://www.mysite.com/products?sessionid=qe8w7cy4x2’
‘http://www.mysite.com/products?trackingid=feed’
There is a fair possibility that such links get enlisted twice in the Search Engines. To avoid this all the Search Engines around the world have agreed to use a code that looks somewhat like this
So even if some tracker code is used on the page, or even if there is a redirect on the page the URL that will be indexed on the page would be http://www.example.com/products
The <link> tag would only point to a canonical URL form within the same domain and not across domains. For example, a tag on http://test.mysite.com can point to a URL on http://www.mysite.com but not on http://Yahoo.com or any other domain.
This would definitely mean more better results with less duplicity and bogusness.
‘Our support for the <link> tag will be implemented over the coming months.’
